This year has seen impressive dissemination of our work locally, nationally, and internationally. Our strong presence at the IHEA World Congress demonstrated the depth and breadth of our expertise, with DHE researchers and PhD students delivering high-quality presentations, moderating sessions, and engaging meaningfully with global peers. Moments like these amplify our international reputation and reaffirm our commitment to advancing impactful, policy-relevant health economics.
Our partners continue to be central to everything we do. The achievements highlighted throughout this newsletter, including developments in the economics of prevention, collaborative cancer research, and our work with policymakers across jurisdictions — are possible because of the strength of these relationships. The article on prevention captures a long-standing truth: investing in prevention is a “no brainer,” yet it receives les funding than other areas and the first area to face cuts when budgets tighten. Our work continues to build the economic case for sustained, long-term investment in prevention, ensuring policymakers have the evidence they need to support healthier communities and stronger systems.
Teaching and capability building also remain core pillars of our mission. We continue to attract high-calibre students and support the sector through our health economics education and training programs Sithara’s reflection on her PhD journey illustrates the passion, curiosity, and resilience of our HDR cohort. Our PhD students, alongside our early and mid-career researchers and dedicated teaching staff, are key to DHE’s ongoing success and the foundation of our sustainability plan. Their achievements this year have been a source of pride and a reminder of the vibrant academic community we are building.
As we look ahead, we do so with momentum and optimism. Our collective efforts grounded in rigorous research, meaningful partnerships, and a commitment to improving population health and system performance, position us strongly for the opportunities and challenges of the coming year.
Thank you to all our partners, collaborators, students, and colleagues for your contribution to another successful year. I hope you enjoy this edition of our newsletter and take as much pride as I do in the impact we continue to achieve together.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season, and good health and happiness in the New Year.
