Dear Colleagues,

It’s been a busy couple of months with the launch of our 2024 Impact Report and our annual Awards and Grants programs.

September marked the next milestone for the DELIVER project with the launch of the Grampians region Residential In Reach (RIR) Program evaluation trial. Designed to improve access to specialist healthcare for older adults living in residential aged care homes across rural and regional western Victoria, the launch was attended by the Hon Catherine King MP and Sam Rae MP. You can read more about it in the Highlights section.

It was a pleasure to attend the Australian Centre for Behavioural Research in Diabetes (ACBRD) 15-year celebration on 14 August. Those attending included Emeritus Professor John Catford and Greg Johnson, who were the Dean of the Faculty of Health and CEO of Diabetes Victoria, respectively, in 2010, and instrumental in establishing the Centre as a partnership between Deakin and Diabetes Victoria. Also attending was previous Dean of the Faculty, Emeritus Professor Brendan Crotty, and the current CEO of Diabetes Victoria, Glen Noonan. This gathering showcased the enduring and impactful partnership between Diabetes Victoria and Deakin University, underscoring the strength and longevity of the collaboration between ACBRD and Deakin. It was also a celebration of the renewal of the partnership for a further five years, from 2025 to 2030.

I’ve recently returned from a successful visit to Aarhus University, University of Southern Denmark, and the University of Copenhagen. Professor Bodil Rasmussen and I had the opportunity to make new connections and forge new alliances with many researchers across the Institute. I’m very grateful to Professor Bodil Rasmussen for her dedicated leadership of the Denmark partnership.

I encourage you to read our 2024 Impact Report if you haven’t had the opportunity It’s a testament to the fantastic work we’ve achieved together with our valued partners, reflecting our shared mission to create meaningful impact in local communities and contribute to a healthier, more equitable world. The research stories are real world proof of our impact on the people, communities and organisations that we work together with.

You might like to consider applying for the Institute’s annual Awards that have just opened. The Awards recognise the impact of our research and celebrate our Early and Mid-Career Researcher’s academic achievements. Our Impact Grants provide funding for members to evaluate the impact of research program(s). Our Research Accelerator Grants fund early and mid-career researchers projects that will inform future external grant and/or fellowship applications. You can read more information on the Members portal.
