Deakin University Art Collection and Galleries staff, who recently reviewed and selected fifty successful artwork ideas in response to the Expression of Interest, said they were overwhelmed by the variety, depth and creative ideas proposed. The successful artists came from all areas across Deakin’s many campuses, students, operational teams, professional staff, academics and researchers.
‘I was super excited and humbled when I heard my artwork idea was accepted,’ Michelle Jeavons, Communications Coordinator, Institute for Health Transformation said. ‘And now I need everyone’s help to make it happen’.
Michelle’s artwork concept is to assemble a large find a word puzzle constructed of 2500 Scrabble tiles. Inspired by the participatory concept of Gosia Wlodarczak’s, Found in translation work, she is looking to include 50 words provided by Deakin students and staff.
Submit your words to be included in the artwork
Michelle is seeking 50 words to include in her artwork and invites you to submit your ideas. Simply click the survey link and answer either of the following questions:
- In one word, what has been your experience of Deakin University?
- In one word, what does Deakin University mean to you?
The survey will remain open until 31 July 2025 and you’re able to submit as many words as you like. You’re also able to submit words in person via a collection box located in the Deakin University Art Gallery, Burwood campus, during the month of July 2025.
Donate your old scrabble games
Do you have a dusty old Scrabble game that is creating clutter at your house? Michelle needs to collect 2500 timber Scrabble tiles and around 25 timber tile rails, and she’d love to include your game in the artwork. Please email Michelle on michelle.jeavons@deakin.edu.au to donate or simply drop off the game to the staff at the Deakin University Art Gallery during open hours.
The Face to Face Revisited exhibition, displaying 50 new artworks inspired by the 50 Years of Collecting Exhibition, is planned to open at the Deakin University Art Gallery on 22 October and run through to 12 December 2025.
