Research study recruitment: Food Insecurity for Women in the Pre-Pregnancy Period

We are inviting women aged 18 to 44 in Victoria, Australia to participate in a research study exploring access to food. Access to enough affordable and nutritious food is a growing concern, especially for women considering a future pregnancy. This study aims to better understand what helps or makes it harder to access the food they need.

By completing a short survey, your input will help improve nutrition support for women before pregnancy, supporting a happier and healthier journey into motherhood.

Who can be involved?

  • Women
  • Considering a future pregnancy
  • Aged 18 to 44
  • Live in Victoria, Australia
  • Proficient in English

What is involved? A 15-minute anonymous survey that can be completed at any time suitable to you.

We want to hear about your household situation, your access to food, your pregnancy planning, and your engagement with community and healthcare providers. Example questions include: Do you feel anxious or stressed about experiencing complications during pregnancy from inconsistent or inadequate food? In the last 12 months, did you or other adults in your household ever not eat for a whole day because there wasn’t enough money for food?

What will you receive? At the completion of the survey, you will be given the option to enter the draw to receive 1 of 3 $100 supermarket vouchers (e.g., Woolworths) and/or receive a summary of the aggregated results.

How do I participate? Please visit: https://researchsurveys.deakin.edu.au/jfe/form/SV_bx6YLcPWHOxt2rY

If you have further questions, please contact Amanda Dickson at Deakin University: amanda.dickson@deakin.edu.au

This study is approved by Deakin University Research Ethics Committee (reference number: 2024/HE000722).

Applications for the HEAL Innovation Fund (HIF) 2025 are now open and will close at 12noon AEST on Monday, 16 June 2025.

The HIF is a competitive seed funding program, offering $1 million over five years to support interdisciplinary research addressing key priorities in environmental or climate change and health in Australia. The program promotes collaboration, particularly research that incorporates community and stakeholder co-design, and has the potential to attract further external funding. In 2025, the program will support projects of up to $30,000 each, over a 12-month period.

Applications must be led by Early to Mid Career Researchers (EMCRs) and they also strongly encourage applications led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers. In recognition of the importance of Indigenous-led research, 20% of total funding will be allocated to projects led by Indigenous researchers.

The HIF 2025 Guiding Principles and Application Form are attached to this email and are also available on the HEAL website under Current Initiatives. Note that non-members may apply for HEAL Affiliate Membership to become eligible to apply to the HIF 2025.

New Research Funding Opportunities SharePoint Site

Due to a number of factors, Research Funding Services are moving our Funding Opportunities pages to a SharePoint site.

Research Funding Opportunities

From today, the external facing funding opportunities sites will no longer show funding opportunities, and researchers will need to access the SharePoint site for our funding opportunities. Links to the Research Funding Opportunities pages will also be available on our Project Funding webpage

All Staff and Students have access to the SharePoint Research Funding Opportunities site, and we will continue to communicate the change in our upcoming Funding Opportunities emails, and via separate emails as required.

The fortnightly Funding Opportunities email will continue, and the links in the email will be directed back to our new Research Funding Opportunities site.

The link to the NOIS form and instructions will remain on the external facing webpages for the time being, and links to the NOIS form are available on each of the Research Funding Opportunities site pages.

If anyone has access issues, or suggestions for improvement for the new SharePoint Funding Opportunities site, we welcome feedback, and please get in touch at research-grants@deakin.edu.au
