Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to the latest edition of our research newsletter as we celebrate our members’ success. We also spotlight recent funding outcomes, new opportunities, and interdisciplinary projects that foster innovation across our disciplines.
Now that the federal election is behind us, the government has a significant health agenda including expanding bulk-billing incentives, boosting mental health support, cheaper medicines, establishment of urgent care clinics and women’s health initiatives. The government’s agenda is designed to make healthcare more accessible and affordable, and we have a key role to play in the evaluation of these initiatives.
I’m also looking forward to the establishment of the Australian Centre for Disease Control (CDC) to improve the country’s preparedness for public health emergencies, strengthen disease prevention efforts, and provide expert advice on health security. The government has committed $250+ million over four years to support its establishment. The CDC will be officially launched on 1 January 2026. We look forward to contributing to the CDC as opportunities arise.
The Institute’s commitment to building capacity and delivering impactful research is reflected in the announcement of our 2025 Impact Grant recipients. Congratulations to Prof Linda Sweet and Prof Tony LaMontagne, who have each been awarded up to $10,000 for their projects. Learn more in the Announcements.
Our strength in grant success continues to grow with A/Prof Serene Yoong’s $1 million MRFF grant for the BLOOM program, a digital intervention integrating social and emotional learning, physical activity, and nutrition, to enhance preschoolers’ wellbeing; and a number of IHT members are collaborating on the $1.9 million MRFF TeleCARE project led by IPAN’s Prof Robin Daly. The TeleCARE project aims to deliver a personalised, clinician-supported, virtual care telehealth exercise, nutrition, education, model for cancer related fatigue.
I want to acknowledge the recent changes to the Burwood office space may have been disruptive for members, please reach out if you would like support or to discuss your space requirements.
A warm welcome to our latest IHT members:
