Dear Colleagues,
I am delighted to step into the role of Acting Director, and grateful for the support from our Domain Leads and Operations team. I look forward to working alongside our members, and I will contribute in any way that I can to continuing the Institute’s success and influence. Having attended IHT’s strategic planning retreat in February, it was inspiring to see the collegiate interaction across the Executive Group and the positive and engaging exchange of ideas. Their collective leadership is creating a lasting impact on the Institute’s success.
From a university perspective, I’m thrilled to advise IHT achieved the highest external funding of any Institute at Deakin University in 2024. Securing research funding is an incredibly challenging endeavour in the current research environment, and our success is due to our incredible researchers who have led, and contributed to, successful grant submissions and tenders. This success has also been achieved by building and sustaining our partnerships with industry, government and community, a key underpinning of the Institute’s vision.
There are many highlights detailed in the Newsletter, but I would like to acknowledge the recent establishment of Vichealth-Deakin University’s world-leading Research Centre to explore interactions between our economy, commercial entities and health outcomes. The Centre, led by Professor Gary Sacks, was launched on 27 March, 2025; it will drive policy change and new business models to support equity of access to the communities we serve. I extend my congratulations to Professor Sacks and his team on this achievement.
I’m looking forward to getting to know each of you better and working together to progress your careers, and IHT’s continued success. If you have ideas, questions, or just would like to chat, I’m here to support you and ensure that we create an environment where everyone can thrive.
A warm welcome to our latest IHT members:
