My name is Kimberley Norman, and I am a qualitative early career research fellow with a primary interest in improving health outcomes, reducing inequity, and increasing quality of life for individuals, communities, and populations. My main research interest focuses on the multi-levelled nature of obesity healthcare and weight management, including the compounding factors from social determinants of health, sociocultural norms, psychosocial factors, stigma, discrimination and political influences. My research aims to deepen our understanding of the complex factors contributing to obesity and to inform more effective prevention and intervention strategies utilising co-design, participatory, and lived experience approaches.

I have a qualitative MSc in Critical Health Psychology and a mixed method PhD in Health with a focus on the complex and highly individualised nature of obesity. I am one year post-PhD, have 21 publications (13 as first author) with experience leading projects, mentoring and supervising junior staff members and masters
students. I have been awarded $130k in scholarship funding, conference travel awards and external funding as part of a team. I am an advisor for Obesity Collective, Weight Issues Network, Franklin Women’s research network and Vice-Chair of the Trainee Committee for the world’s largest primary care research group (NAPCRG).

I am currently seeking academic opportunities to further my knowledge, learn from multi-disciplinary colleagues, and grow as an independent researcher.
I am interested in joining a research team that values rigorous, qualitative approaches to public health challenges. I would be grateful for the chance to discuss any available research fellow positions within your team or department. Please feel free to contact: kimberley.norman@monash.edu
