The purpose of the partnership is to acknowledge and facilitate the shared responsibility of implementing the Australian Cancer Plan across the cancer control sector via coordinated action. The Australian Cancer Plan is a national strategy designed to improve cancer care for all Australians. To achieve this, the ECORRA Research Group will lead multiple initiatives, such as co-designing an Optimal Care Pathway implementation package for rural and remote Australia, developing a new dedicated Optimal Care Pathway for people living in rural and remote areas, and improving equitable access to cancer screening programs. Implementing the Optimal Care Pathways, which are a foundation of the Australian Cancer Plan, will help to ensure people in rural and remote areas receive the best possible care.
The ECORRA Research Group at Deakin University will leverage existing partnerships and relationships with health services, consumers, and academic partners to deliver on their responsibilities to implement the Optimal Care Pathways to support people with cancer in rural and remote areas.
“This partnership will allow us to tackle the unique challenges faced by rural patients with cancer, who often experience poorer outcomes than those in metropolitan areas,” said Associate Professor Ugalde, lead of the ECORRA Research Group. “Our goal is to reduce these inequities and ensure that all Australians, regardless of postcode, have access to high-quality cancer care.”
Through this partnership, Deakin University and Cancer Australia will continue to lead the way in developing solutions that bring equitable, high-quality cancer care to every corner of the country.
