Logistic Regression 5 Day Masterclass tickets, 24-28 Feb 2025
Deakin Epidemiology is pleased to offer a summer Masterclass focused on Logistic regression to be delivered by arguably the world’s most famous teacher of this statistical technique – Prof. Stanley Lemeshow.
In years past, Lemeshow together with Ken Rothman offered back-to-back masterclasses in Biostats and Epi in Tasmania which were a bit of an institution, with many epidemiologists and biostatisticians building their knowledge and networks by heading south for a healthy dose of upskilling or as a refresher. Stan has agreed to offer this program onshore once again in Australia, this time at Deakin University’s Melbourne CBD campus 727 Collins Street, Docklands VIC 3008.
This 5-day course, 24-28 Feb 2025, will provide theoretical and hands-on practical knowledge and skills in statistical modelling with an in-depth focus on logistic regression analysis – the standard method for regression analysis of binary, multinomial and ordinal response data in health research.
Each day comprises a 4-hr class in the morning and a 2-hr practical session in the afternoon. And opportunities to network with fellow health and medical practitioners and researchers.

Faculty of Health Cross-Institute Showcase 2024
The 2024 Cross-Institute Showcase held on 11 November, at Deakin Downtown, brought together the Faculty of Health’s three institutes: IHT, IMPACT and IPAN to showcase groundbreaking and cutting-edge research. The goals of the event were to communicate priorities, foster collaboration and inspire research and translation.
The event opened with a welcome from Associate Dean for Research, Prof Mathew Fuller-Tyszkiewicz, followed by Plenary talks by the Institutes, Prof Michael Berk (IMPACT), Prof Anna Timperio (IPAN) and Prof Jane Speight (IHT).
Following an ice-breaker activity and morning tea, the first session for the day Digital technologies to optimise health in the 21st century covered a broad range of inspiring research – from the use of AI tools to inform regulatory measures for harmful digital marketing to leveraging technology for people with bipolar disorder. The IHT’s Dr Natalie Winter, Dr Navoda Pathirana and Dr Marcus Sellars were invited to give 10-minute TED-style talks on their novel research programs, which were well-received by attendees.
The afternoon session kicked off with the theme of Innovative approaches to improving human health with a focus on equity and inclusion. Prof Angela Dew (IHT) presented on co-designing resources with people with disability from refugee backgrounds. Dr Christina Zorbas and Khalid Muse (IHT) spoke about equity in food policy; while the session wrapped up with a presentation from Katherine Burnard (IHT) on embracing the coproduction counterculture.
We were delighted that four of the six awards for presentation categories went to IHT researchers: a huge congratulations to Navoda Pathirana, Angela Dew, Khalid Muse and Christina Zorbas and Katherine Burnard – and to all of the presenters on the day.
Overall, the 2024 Cross-Institute Showcase was highly successful in meeting its objectives and encouraging meaningful engagement across the different faculties. The event allowed ample opportunities for networking, research sharing, and collaboration, all of which contributed to a positive atmosphere and great discussions.
The overwhelmingly positive feedback and strong participation highlight the event’s potential to serve as a solid foundation for future Cross-institutional initiatives.
IHT Partnerships Showcase
Thanks to everyone who attended the IHT Partnerships showcase and Q&A last week! It was great to hear about the partnership supports available across IHT and the university more broadly, and to hear fantastic insights from our panel of experts: Prof Adrian Cameron, Prof. Jane Speight, Prof. Bodil Rasmussen and Lisa Sandrk.
If you missed the session, you can watch the recording and access the slides from the session, which include some really handy links, here:
