Part time marking opportunity in Health Economics

 To all economists or researchers and PhD students with health economics experience: 

The Health Economics (Introduction level) team is looking for one person to help Lisa, Ha and Sangita with marking essays in the period 29 April – 17 May.  You need to be available for some meetings at the start of this period (29 April-1 May) and then for between 30 and 50 hours of marking over 1-17 May. Please contact Lisa (lisa.gold@deakin.edu.au) before 8 April if you can help. 


 Part time marking opportunity with the School of Health and Social Development

Understanding Health HSB107 requires 2 – 3  markers to cover approx. 50 – 100 hours each over Trimester 1 (depending on final student enrolments after census and number of submissions) 

  • AT1 – Managing My Career Written Report:  1,000 words. Short answer questions completed in a template report format, due Tuesday 9 April 2024 (Week 5) 8.00pm, allocation of 20 minutes/paper 
  • AT2 – HealthPlan Report: 1,600 words Week 8: Thursday 2 May 2024 8pm, AEST.
    Essay style report on State Government Health Plan in context of health priority area, population group, and health determinants. Allocation of 30 mins per paper. 
  • 6 hours for marking moderation and meetings

Applications are now open for the three 2024 ABC TOP 5 media residencies

The ABC is searching for Australia’s next generation of inspiring research communicators: TOP 5 – ABC Media Residency Program – ABC listen

Each year, the ABC puts out a call to Australia’s higher education sector and research organisations to find the TOP  5 early research career PhD scholars in three categories: Science, the Humanities, and the Arts.

The successful researchers (5 per residency) will get spend two weeks working alongside the ABC’s award-winning journalists and producers. This is the opportunity for them to learn first-hand, about how to get information about their specialisation out through audio, television, and digital platforms.

The TOP 5 boasts over one hundred alumni, with many becoming leading commentators in their fields and mentors for other early career researchers. The program is delivered at no cost to universities or participants, thanks to the support of our program partners: the University of Melbourne, Creative Australia, the Australian National University, and the University of Sydney.

Who can apply for the TOP 5 program?

HUMANITIES: Early career researchers in humanities, arts, and social sciences (HASS) with a PhD.

SCIENCE: Early career researchers in science, technology, engineering, math, and medical research (STEMM) with a PhD.

ARTS: Early-career Arts researchers – with or studying for – a PhD in visual arts, architecture, design, performance, screen, literature, or music.

The dates for the 2024 residencies are:

  • HUMANITIES: Monday 5 to Friday 16 August 2024
  • SCIENCE: Monday 16 to Friday 27 September 2024
  • ARTS: Monday 14 October to Friday 25 October2024
