Food Policy Index update
The Food Policy Index, led by Gary Sacks, released its latest scorecard of governmental implementation of globally recommended policies to improve population diets. The scorecard demonstrates that Australia is sliding backwards in its efforts to prevent obesity.
DHE to evaluate new priority primary care centre
Ballarat’s new priority primary care centre will be evaluated by a team of IHT researchers led by Suzanne Robinson. The project will assess the centre’s effectiveness in reducing demand on emergency departments and determine the cost-effectiveness of doing so.
Deeble Perspectives brief: Towards a thriving healthcare workforce
Kate Huggins led the development of a new Perspectives brief from the Deeble Institute for Health Policy Research. Titled Towards a thriving healthcare workforce, the brief examines the complex issue of health workforce wellbeing and outlines solutions on how we can best promote the development of a sustainable healthcare workforce.
Perinatal Fatherhood Roundtable
Chaired by Karen Wynter, the first Perinatal Fatherhood Roundtable was held in October and enabled organisations and leaders come together from across Australia to participate in shaping a way forward for an integrated model of care for fathers in the perinatal period.

Victorian Healthcare Association workforce wellbeing forum
Sara Holton presented her research at the Victorian Healthcare Association workforce wellbeing forum, detailing reported levels of mental health concerns in staff working in hospitals and community health settings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Learn more about her research on Healing Health.

- Kathryn Backholer, who has received Deakin’s Vice-Chancellor’s Mid-Career Researcher Award for Career Excellence and was awarded a Public Health Association of Australia Fellowship
- Anna Peeters has received the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Campus Environments for our new IHT Hub
- Clara Gomez Donoso and Rebecca Bennett, who were finalists for best public health ECR talk and poster, respectively, at the International Congress on Obesity.
- Nikki McCaffrey, on the launch of the Australian Health Economics Society’s special interest group in cancer economics. Nikki is co-convenor of the group.
