Dr Alemayehu Mekonnen was accepted into the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD) 2021 Implementation Science School.

Dr Karen Wynter was awarded “Best Contribution to Science” at the Australasian Marce Tresillian Virtual Conference (New Paradigms in Parenting, Perinatal Mental Health & Wellbeing) for the presentation “Experiences of receiving and providing maternity care during the pandemic”. Karen was reporting on the collaboration between Curtin University, Deakin, the Burnet Institute and University of Melbourne: ‘Receiving and providing maternity care during the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia: Experiences of women, partners and support people, midwives, doctors and midwifery students’. The Deakin team included the Institute’s Professor Linda Sweet and Dr Vidanka Vasilevski.

Professor Elizabeth Manias was invited to contribute to Research Australia’s submission to the Commonwealth Department of Health, for the Response to the 2021 Review of the National Medicines Policy. Elizabeth was also asked to represent the Australian College of Nursing on the Expert Advisory Committee of the Commonwealth Department of Health to lead the review of the National Medicines Policy.
